I am a manga-loving Japanese. I have spent most of my life reading manga.
Among the manga that I have read, I would like to introduce some highly recommended manga that I have personally enjoyed that I would like to recommend to various people to read and gush over.
Super big titles like “ONEPIECE” “DEMON SLAYER,” and “Attack on Titan.”
I love them so much, but I think most of you know them even if I introduce them now, so I’m leaving them out this time.
(All ages and genres are covered.
10 Best Manga
PandoraHearts
PandoraHearts” by Jun Mochizuki. It has been completed in 24 volumes.
The air of celebration surrounding fifteen-year-old Oz Vessalius’s coming-of-age ceremony quickly turns to horror when he is condemned for a sin about which he knows nothing. He is thrown into an eternal, inescapable prison known as the Abyss from which there is no escape. There, he meets a young girl named Alice, who is not what she seems. Now that the relentless cogs of fate have begun to turn, do they lead only to crushing despair for Oz, or is there some shred of hope for him to grasp on to?
It is a dark fantasy with a surprisingly well-developed storyline.
The impressive recovery of foreshadowing will definitely make you want to read it again from the beginning after finishing it once.
The characters are very attractive, and the characters are cool both as enemies and allies.
Each character fights for his or her beliefs, loved ones, and things to protect. Even if it is a warped love.
As a dark fantasy, I think it is one of the most interesting.
If you haven’t read it yet, please do!
Claymore
Claymore” by Norihiro Yagi. It has been completed in 27 volumes.
A village is gripped by fear and paranoia when a Yoma claims six lives. The Claymore who is sent to slay the creature isn’t what the villagers expect at all. In fact, she seems more monster than human.
At first, I thought it was a typical story of a battle between monsters and humans, but when I finished reading it, I realized that the girls called “Claymores” and the demons were well thought out.
There is a kind of strength ranking among the claymores, and the battle scenes of the top-ranked ones tickle my kitchen fancy. Also, the strongest of the enemies is called “Shinen-no-mono (the abyssal one),” and this word also ignites my kitchen spirit!
The final volume also has a very beautiful ending, and I recommend this work so that you can enjoy the feeling of having finished reading a great work.
Imuri
Imuri” by Ranjo Miyake. It has been completed in 26 volumes.
I couldn’t find the English version of the manga, so I’m posting the anime link.
The ruling class, the karmas, used the invasion technique to control the minds of others to rule over the slave class, the ikols. The planet Rune, a neighbor of the Karmas’ planet Marge, had been frozen by the Karmas during an ancient war, but after 4,000 years the ice began to melt and the Karmas abandoned Marge, a lifeless planet, and began to migrate to their home planet of Rune.
Duruk, a boy of the ruling class, rebels against Kama when he discovers the truth about Kama’s ruling form and the ancient war during a study trip to Roon. He also discovers the use of a certain tool that Kama had hidden away, and his life is threatened.
Imuri is a fascinating work because of its well-crafted and grandiose worldview.
The worldview created by the author is so grand that the first few volumes go on explaining the meaning of terms, the setting, and the relationships between the characters.
It is a bit complicated, but if you read it, you will gradually understand it. Once you understand it, is there such an epic and interesting science fiction manga? No, I don’t think so.
This is a fascinating work with a profound story that weaves in issues such as religion, racism, and the status system, etc. If you like science fiction, this is a must-read for you.
World Trigger
World Trigger” by Daisuke Asihara. It has already published 24 volumes. As of 8/1/2022
Earth is under constant threat from Neighbors, invincible monsters from another dimension that destroy our way of life. At least we have the elite warriors of Border, who co-opt alien technology to fight back!
Our hero Osamu Mikumo may not be the best agent, but he’ll do whatever it takes to defend life on Earth as we know it.
When Osamu meets a feisty humanoid Neighbor named Yuma, everything that he thinks is right is turned on its head. Can the two natural enemies ever become friends?
Mikado City is threatened by invaders from another dimension, the “Neighbor”. Osamu Mikumo, a junior high school student with a strong sense of justice, meets a mysterious transfer student, Yuma Kuga.
The story is a science fiction action in which Osamu and his friends fight to protect the city from the invading Neighbor.
World Trigger fights by creating its own alter ego with a kind of energy in the body called a trionic body.
So even if he dies in battle, if he is a trionic body, the main body is still alive in this setting.
Because of this, it is hard to predict that the fighter will not die, and the battles are exciting because they make you curious about what will happen next.
Also, the best part of World Trigger is the ranked battles fought between allies. Here, too, the trionic setting comes to life, as allies fight each other to the death. (Although they don’t actually die.) These ranked battles are strategic and very interesting, like watching a group FPS, and I highly recommend this work!
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” is written by Yamada Kaneto and drawn by Abetsukasa. It has already published 5 volumes. As of 8/1/2022
The adventure is over but life goes on for an elf mage just beginning to learn what living is all about.
Elf mage Frieren and her courageous fellow adventurers have defeated the Demon King and brought peace to the land. But Frieren will long outlive the rest of her former party. How will she come to understand what life means to the people around her?
Decades after their victory, the funeral of one her friends confronts Frieren with her own near immortality. Frieren sets out to fulfill the last wishes of her comrades and finds herself beginning a new adventure…
This is a postquel fantasy story about a group of heroes who defeated the Demon King. The main character, the wizard Frieren, is an elf, and unlike the other three, he has lived a long time.
In a world after the death of his former companions, Frieren sets out on a journey with a new apprentice to learn more about the heroes and humans.
When she visits the towns and villages she once visited, she learns that the good deeds done by the heroes on their journey to defeat the Demon King, which she thought were meaningless, are passed down and appreciated in the villages where they go. The heartwarming story reminds us that there is no such thing as useless or meaningless.
The former friends are depicted as having spent the rest of their lives happily, which, combined with Frieren’s recollections of his adventurous days, makes the story somewhat poignant.
I am looking forward to seeing what Frieren will feel and how he will live in the world after his friends are gone.
This work is a story with a novel setting that begins as a postquel to the defeat of the Demon King.
The gags interspersed throughout the story were amusing and made me want to see the continuation of Frieren’s journey and the prequel to the heroes’ story.
The story begins at the end of the adventure. That’s the best catchphrase I’ve ever heard. I recommend this work.
Karakuri Circus
Karakuri Circus” by Kazuhiro Fujita. It has been completed in 43 volumes.
Mr. Fujita is also the author of “Ushio-Tora.
I couldn’t find the English version of the manga, so I’m posting the anime link.
The film depicts the strange fates of three people: Masaru, a boy whose life is threatened because of an inheritance dispute; Narumi, a man who has a disease that causes him to die unless he makes people laugh; and Shirogane, a woman who manipulates a karakuri doll to save Masaru.
After parting with Narumi, the story splits into two parts: the Masaru/Shirogane part and the Narumi part, which involves the fight against the karakuri dolls that are avenging mankind.
The two completely different stories intersect and converge into one.
The villain of this work is, after all, very scruffy but fascinating.
The identity of the mastermind, which I won’t mention because it would be a major spoiler for this Manga, is a selfish, nauseating, evil man who has been chasing the woman he loves for three generations and has brought misery to all mankind in the process.
The wicked man says, “If I believe in myself and keep pursuing my ‘dreams,’ my dreams will come true! It is even refreshing to see him say with dignity what the main character might say.
Karakuri Circus is a wonderful work that is full of foreshadowing and the scattered foreshadowing converges into a single storyline at the end.
If you are curious about the identity of the mastermind, please check it out..
Made in Abyss
Made in Abyss” by Akihito Tsukushi. It has already published 10 volumes. As of 8/1/2022
EXPLORE ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES IN THIS ALL-NEW FANTASY SERIES! In an age when the corners of the world have been scoured for their secrets, only one place remains unexplored–a massive cave system known as the Abyss, filled with monstrous creatures and lost relics. Those who delve into its depths are known as Cave Raiders. A young orphan named Riko dreams of following in her mother’s footsteps as a Cave Raider, and when she meets a strange robot while exploring the Abyss, she is one perilous step closer to achieving her goal!
In a world where every corner has been explored, “Abyss” is the only remaining unexplored, large hole in the ground. The Abyss, the only remaining unexplored cavern in a world that has explored every nook and cranny of the earth, is a huge, deep cavern that knows no bounds. The mysterious appearance of the Abyss fascinated people and drove them to adventure.
I thought this work would be a moe-type work because of its cute pictures, but it was completely different. This work makes me think that I am a fool for not having read it before.
First of all, the setting of the Abyss, the great hole, is wonderful. The Abyss is divided into several levels, and although it is easy to go down, it is very difficult to climb up. This is because there is an ascending load, and climbing up the Abyss from the bottom entails various physical damages. Especially after the fifth level, climbing up the hole is synonymous with death. With almost a one-way ticket, the explorers take on the mystery of the Abyss.
This is exactly what I wanted to see! It is an exciting tale of survival and adventure that makes you think, “This is exactly what I wanted to see!
Despite the cute pictures, the story itself is grotesque and heavy, so be careful if you are not good at it.
If you like adventure stories, this one is especially recommended!
Chi.-About the Earth’s motion-
Chi. About the Earth’s Motion” by Uoto. It has been completed in 8 volumes.
Unfortunately, the English version of the comic has not been released yet.
The setting is 15th century Europe. It was a time when heretical thought was being condemned to be burned at the stake. The main character, a child prodigy named Rafaou, was expected by everyone to major in theology, the most important subject at the time. Rafaou, who valued rationality the most, was a natural choice, but one day a mysterious man appeared to Rafaou, and what he was researching was a “certain truth” in the midst of heretical thought…
It is the story of those who risked their lives in pursuit of this truth at a time when the “geocentric theory,” or the idea that the earth is moving, which is now a commonplace concept, was itself heresy.
This manga is the story of people who have “unbendable beliefs even at the cost of their lives. This is the most interesting and recommended work I have read in 2021.
EREN THE SOUTHPAW
Eren the southpaw” is written by Mr. Kappi and cartooned by Mr. NIFUNI. It has already published 21 volumes. As of 8/1/2022
Unfortunately, the English version of the comic has not been released yet.
To all those who could not become geniuses
Koichi Asakura is a young designer working for an advertising agency. When the job he won is taken away from him for reasons he cannot accept, he heads for an art museum in Yokohama with an unfulfilled feeling. This is where he first encounters the talent known as “Eren”… This is an ensemble drama about creators that will touch the hearts of adults as well!
This work is an ensemble drama of creators, in which the Koichi version and the genius Eren version intersect.
The Eren version is a Shonen Jump-like work that tells the story of Eren’s growth as a genius who has his own problems and meets people who change him.
The Kouichi version is a story that feels the theme of this work, “To all those who could not become geniuses…”. Koichi’s anguish, conflict, and the way he faces his work make me want to do a good job myself.
Eren the southpaw, an ensemble drama of creators that also grips the hearts of such adults.
If you haven’t read it yet, please do so.
Ahiru no Sora
Ahiru no sora” by Takeshi Hyuga. It has already published 28 volumes. As of 8/1/2022
He’s short, weak, and has just transfered to a new school. Kurumatani Sora is the main character in this story who loves basketball. He has been shooting hoops ever since he was little and has been trying to grow tall just like his mother, who “used” to be a basketball player. What happened to her and what Sora will do at the new school is all up to you to find out!
The main character, Sora Kurumatani, is a short basketball player with a height of 149cm.
He tries to join the basketball club at the high school he entered, but the basketball club is run by a delinquent and is practically closed. Sora revitalizes the basketball club.
At first, I thought I was reading a sporty manga about former delinquents, but I was wrong.
Ahiru no Sora is a legitimate sport manga!
At first, the delinquents start playing basketball reluctantly, but gradually they become more serious and devote themselves to practice. As they experience repeated setbacks and difficulties, they gradually change to such a level of determination that they dedicate their high school life to basketball.
In addition, the psychological portrayal of the players is also very carefully depicted in Ahiru no Sora. The feelings of not being able to honestly rejoice when they see their friends, who started as beginners, playing well in a game on the bench. Despite the team’s expectations for the new players who will become a competitive force, they do not want the new players to join the team because of the fear that their positions will be taken away from them. These are real high school students struggling with their true feelings and their pretenses. This is a feeling that everyone who has experienced sports must have felt at least once.
It is such a realistic and hot basketball manga. A must read for all the active players out there!
Finally
The above is a compilation of manga recommended by manga-loving Japanese.
If you have not read any of these works, please check them out as they are all highly recommended!
